Whimsical White Spotted Toadstool Mushroom Crochet Bag Drawstring Purse Shoulder Handmade Fairy Fantasy Accessory

I truly LOVE making these bags! They are so much fun to use and are great for events and faires to carry my wallet, phone and keys.

I start by making the base of the bag. I crochet a round, flat disk by evenly spacing increases in every double crochet round. When it measures 5" in diameter, I cut the yarn and weave in my ends. I use this base as a sizing guide for my heavy weight plastic canvas that I cut to match. I then crochet a second round disk, same as the first but I do not cut the yarn on this one. I crochet the two disks together with the plastic canvas between the two layers. This makes a very solid and secure base for the bag.

I then crochet the body of the bag in half double crochet stitches. These stitches make a tight weave that offers a beautiful texture to the supple bag. When the bag measures the correct height, I do a round of double crochet stitches and chains to make the eyelets for the drawstring. The last round of the bag is done using a lightweight cotton yarn in pale green to make a "leafy" ruffle along the top of the bag.

The "toadstool" top is crocheted next. It is worked in rounds with fewer increases than the base, so it makes the rounded shape I wanted for the top. On round four I added a large eyelet for the strap to go through and secure the top to the bag later. After the top is the correct size, the white spots are made separately in three different sizes and then hand sewn in random placement on the lid.

I also add a 1" plastic ring around the eyelets for extra support and stability for the strap holes. I crochet around the ring, attaching it to the eyelet hole I made in the lid. I hand sew the edges of this ring to the lid as well, assuring that it is secure and will not wear off with extended use.

The drawstring for the bag is made using two strands of dark green lightweight cotton yarn. I chain the length I need, leaving a very long tail at both ends of the drawstring. I weave the drawstring through the eyelet holes of the bag. I then take the long tail at the ends and crochet the shape of a leaf on the ends with a black plastic bead as accent.

And voila! The fun and playful bag is ready to roam the forests and woodlands!
