I’m tired. You’re tired. So many of us right now are so tired we can hardly do what we love, let alone what we need to do to survive.
This hand drawn black-and-white piece sees us, the weary, the lost, the lonely, and says,
“I, too, am with you. I, too, have nothing left to give. Let us hold even this deepest exhaustion together. One day we will make it through.”
This original black and white piece is black and white for a reason. Weariness drains me of life, of love, of vitality, of the ability to thrive. Society around us over time has slowly drained of color. In order to make it in life, we must bring the color back — but in the meantime, we also must acknowledge what currently is. This piece does that.
This piece shows the harshness of reality in black and white, framed in gray with a speck of imperfect black. Viewer staring directly at the camera. She doesn’t hide. She won’t ever hide again.
She is a portrait of you. A portrait of me. A portrait of anyone’s soul who’s life-blood is slowly decaying. A yearning for more of life.
She came directly from my imagination. (Yes, you are correct in assuming this: no model was used in this composition.) She came directly from my mind and heart onto the page in front of me and leapt into the frame designed especially to fit her soul-tired gaze.
If you’re still reading this, there’s a reason: this piece was meant to be for you.
