Red Melt the ICE No Kings Resistance Crochet Bandana Triangle Head Scarf

Our world is going to hell. I decided to take a quiet stand. 

The Nisseau style hat was dubbed the Quiet Revolution during Nazi Germany in the 1940s. The Norwegian people started making these bright red wool hats as a sign of protest. No rallies or verbal protests, just a quiet sea of red hats. The Germans actually made it illegal for anyone caught, not only wearing the hat, but also those that were making them. They feared what it represented. It's time to bring back that sea of red.

It was a very distinctive style of hat with a pointed top and a tassel hanging down. It was a powerful symbol of solidarity and resistance that turned into a physical show of support for the German nation. Seriously, read up about it. It is fascinating how something so simple became such a demonstrative and visible show of support and resistance.

I wanted to try and duplicate that movement. I also wanted to offer financial support but I'm on a set income--donating to others isn't in the budget. So, I made a compromise with myself. I donate 50% of profits from all three of my Melt the ICE items. It isn't much but I can guarantee that the person who gets that little bit of financial assistance is incredibly grateful. 

I have hand knitted Nisseau style hats that I made and sold last winter and was able to donate several hundred dollars to Immigration Aid Agencies to assist families with young children that were affected by ICE and the horrific injustices. I wanted to continue sending those donations, so I chose to make the Mini Hat Keychains, and these Melt the ICE Bandanas.

The bandanas are hand crocheted using 100% cotton lightweight yarn for a comfortable, all day fit. They are crocheted using a small hook and the Granny Stitch Cluster pattern shows a dainty design. I deliberately decided to not add a border or excess frills because it isn't a fashion statement, it is a political one-just like the original Nisseau hat. 

Each tie is 12" long and they create a bandana that will fit just about every head that wants it. It will fit ladies and men, teens and tweens. The ties are even long enough that I have had customers tie it about their waist as a hip sash.
