Each Botanical Portrait is an individually crafted piece of wearable art made from tiny strips of quilled paper. I use a pixelated, pointillistic approach to quilling, building the image from many small paper elements rather than traditional drawn or painted marks. Additional quilled paper creates the frame around the botanical image, and the finished piece is sealed with a clear resin glaze that adds depth, shine, and protection to the paper surface.

The resin glaze helps protect the finished piece from incidental moisture, but this is still paper-based artwork and should not be considered waterproof. Please remove before showering, swimming, bathing, or prolonged exposure to water. Avoid prolonged direct sunlight and excessive heat, and store carefully when not being worn. Because each portrait is handmade individually, small variations in color, shape, texture, and paper placement are part of its character.

    Poppies carry many layers of meaning: remembrance, sacrifice, consolation, rest, dreams, and imagination. Their seeds can also symbolize abundance and potential, while their ability to germinate quickly under changed conditions has made the poppy a powerful image of life emerging from disrupted ground.

    That particular quality speaks to me. I have been thinking a great deal about what it means to return to a creative life after a period of interruption, and about the possibility that something can remain quietly present beneath the surface even when it has not been visible for a long time.

    I created this Botanical Portrait as a small celebration of that idea: remembrance without remaining stuck in the past; rest without giving up; imagination making a return; and new life emerging when the conditions become right.

    You might wear the poppy as your own symbol of remembrance, consolation, renewal, creative awakening, or simply as a reminder that dormant does not necessarily mean gone.
